To strengthen the capacity of healthcare workers in conducting Antenatal Classes, the Yayasan Pembangunan Citra Insan Indonesia (YPCII), in collaboration with Global Communities through the Continuum of Family Care (CoFC) Program, conducted a “Technical Facilitation Orientation for Antenatal Classes for Midwives and Nutrition Personnel at Majasari and Menes Community Health Centers.”
The activity was held from June 2–4, 2026, at the Pandeglang Indonesian Midwives Association (IBI) Building. A total of 26 participants attended the activity, comprising 13 area midwives and Maternal and Child Health (MCH) coordinators from Majasari Community Health Center, 7 area midwives and MCH coordinators from Menes Community Health Center, 3 coordinating midwives and nutrition officers from Majasari Community Health Center, and 3 coordinating midwives and nutrition officers from Menes Community Health Center.
The orientation aimed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and capacity of midwives and nutrition personnel to facilitate Antenatal Classes effectively, interactively, and in accordance with applicable guidelines. Participants gained an understanding of the importance of effective communication and Interpersonal Communication (IPC) in building interaction and encouraging the active participation of pregnant women throughout the sessions.
The training materials also covered the importance of regular antenatal care, safe birth preparedness, postpartum care, prevention of diseases and complications during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, as well as newborn care to support optimal infant growth and development.
In addition to the core materials, participants were introduced to the technical guidelines for implementing Antenatal Classes in accordance with the Ministry of Health guidelines. To strengthen their facilitation skills, the orientation included microteaching practice, demonstrations on appropriate food portioning for pregnant women, and the development of follow-up action plans for implementing Antenatal Classes within their respective working areas.
Through this activity, midwives and nutrition personnel are expected to have stronger capabilities in facilitating Antenatal Classes, enabling the sessions to be conducted in a structured, participatory, and effective manner. Ultimately, the program is expected to improve pregnant women's knowledge, confidence, and preparedness in maintaining their health throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.
