Tapare Pararoko Strengthens Mimika Communities
Tapare Pararoko Program was a community empowerment initiative implemented by Yayasan Pembangunan Citra Insan Indonesia (YPCII) in collaboration with LPMAK – PT Freeport Indonesia from 2012 to 2016 in Mimika Regency, Central Papua. The program was designed to strengthen social capacity and improve community welfare in remote areas through a community-based development approach.
The program was carried out across 15 villages located in Mimika Barat, Amar, and Mimika Tengah districts. Throughout its implementation, the Tapare Pararoko Program successfully reached 1,145 families or approximately 4,737 beneficiaries. The initiative focused on improving quality of life through strengthening access to basic services, enhancing local community capacity, and fostering collaborative development involving local governments, community leaders, and various local stakeholders.
Using a participatory approach, local communities were actively involved in every stage of the program, from planning to implementation. This approach became an essential foundation for ensuring sustainability while strengthening community ownership of the development outcomes achieved. In addition to delivering direct benefits to beneficiary families, the program also contributed to stronger social solidarity and community resilience across coastal and inland areas of Mimika.
YPCII believes that sustainable community development can only be achieved through collaboration, empowerment, and respect for local socio-cultural contexts. The Tapare Pararoko Program reflects a shared commitment to creating meaningful, inclusive, and long-term impacts for the people of Mimika Regency.
