Training on Communication for Social and Behavior Change

The Communication for Social and Behavior Change (SBCC) training was conducted for Posyandu cadres from Pagerbatu and Cilaja Urban Villages, Majasari Subdistrict, Pandeglang Regency, Banten Province.

The two-day training was held on Thursday–Friday, 18–19 June 2026, at the IBI Pandeglang Branch Secretariat Building, Majasari. The training was attended by 34 Posyandu cadres, comprising 24 cadres from Pagerbatu Urban Village, accompanied by 2 village midwives, and 10 cadres from Cilaja Urban Village, accompanied by 2 village midwives.

The SBCC training was conducted as part of efforts to strengthen the capacity of Posyandu cadres to communicate effectively in promoting positive behavior change within the community, particularly in the areas of maternal and child health and nutrition. As one of the frontline actors in community-based health services, cadres play an important role in providing health education, engaging with families, and supporting various activities such as Posyandu, Pregnant Women’s Classes, Fathers’ Classes, and Parenting Classes.

During the training, participants gained an understanding of the psychology of behavior change and the various factors that influence community behavior. Participants also learned how to identify and map health issues and community practices so that health messages could be tailored to the conditions, characteristics, and needs of the target audience.

One of the key topics covered was persuasive communication through the ADU method—Appreciation, Dialogue, and Feedback. Through this approach, cadres were encouraged to establish two-way communication, respect the experiences and circumstances of community members, and deliver information in a more persuasive and non-judgmental manner. This approach is expected to help cadres build stronger relationships with mothers, fathers, and families, enabling behavior change processes to take place gradually and sustainably.

In addition to communication skills, participants received training on message development strategies and digital ethics. Participants then practiced creating educational materials using Canva and producing simple videos using CapCut. These practical sessions aimed to equip cadres with basic skills in utilizing digital media to communicate health information in an engaging, simple, and easy-to-understand way.

Throughout the training, participants were not only engaged in theoretical learning but also actively participated in discussions, games and ice-breaking activities, hands-on practice, and group work. This interactive learning process provided opportunities for participants to share their field experiences, identify challenges encountered in their communities, and directly practice the communication techniques introduced during the training.

At the end of the training, participants completed a post-test and developed a Follow-Up Action Plan (RTL). The RTL served as a commitment for participants to apply the knowledge and skills gained during the training in Posyandu activities and community health services within their respective areas.

Through this activity, Posyandu cadres from Pagerbatu and Cilaja Urban Villages are expected to become increasingly capable of engaging with communities through effective, persuasive, and participatory communication. Strengthening cadres’ SBCC capacity will contribute to improving the delivery of health and nutrition education, supporting positive changes in family behaviors, and ultimately improving maternal and child health in support of the objectives of the Continuum of Family Care Program.
