SIMASKOTA Program Improves Urban Sanitation
SIMASKOTA (Urban Sanitation for Communities) was a sanitation improvement initiative implemented in Jakarta from 2018 to 2019 through a collaboration between PT Sinarmas, YPCII (Yayasan Pembangunan Citra Insan Indonesia), and Speak Indonesia. The program was designed to expand access to safe, adequate, and sustainable sanitation facilities for urban communities, contributing to improved public health and quality of life.
The program included the construction of individual septic tanks and the development of communal biofilter wastewater treatment systems in densely populated neighborhoods. Activities were carried out in Pademangan Barat Village and Tebet Timur Village, using a participatory approach that actively involved local residents in planning, implementation, and maintenance. This approach helped ensure long-term utilization and sustainability of the sanitation facilities.
Through the SIMASKOTA Program, a total of 98 families, representing approximately 290 beneficiaries, gained direct access to improved sanitation services. The availability of better sanitation infrastructure contributed to reducing environmental pollution risks, improving community health, and creating cleaner and healthier living environments.
The program reflects the shared commitment of all partners to advancing sustainable development in the water and sanitation sector. By strengthening basic infrastructure and encouraging community participation, SIMASKOTA serves as a practical example of how collaborative action can create healthier, more inclusive, and resilient urban communities for the future.
